Recent storms have caused considerable damage to properties.  It's important to assess and repair storm damage. A quick repair makes sure a small issue doesn't worsen with time. Please keep this information in mind when considering how to fix any damage on your property.

  • A building permit is required for replacing roofing, siding, and windows.  Permits are important to keep accurate records for insurance and when you sell in the future.  A permit is not required for small repairs less than $500 in estimated value.

  • Contractors must be licensed with the State of Wisconsin to perform work on 1- and 2- family homes. Always check if your contractor is licensed to receive building permits. Out of State contractors may not be licensed.
  • Before work is completed, it's a good idea to verify a building permit has been obtained.  You can check this online or by calling Building Inspection at 608-266-4551 ext 1.
  • When replacing roofing and siding, check for interior damage from water leaks.  If you observe damage to framing or support members, make necessary repairs. You should waterproof to prevent future problems.
