  • by managing the City's real estate assets and transactions in a responsible manner

Office of Business Resources

The Office of Business Resources (OBR) helps businesses locate, open and expand within the City of Madison by:

  • Directing businesses toward financial and technical assistance programs available through the City and other sources
  • Guiding businesses through City permitting and approval processes
  • Facilitating appropriate space for business development through participation in City land use planning efforts
  • Staffing the Business and Economic Resources Committee (BERC)
  • Overseeing the City's street vending, sidewalk cafe, merchant vending and banner placement programs

Meghan Blake-Horst, Street Vending Coordinator

The Street Vending Coordinator enforces and administrates Ordinance 9.13 and regulations as they relate to Sidewalk Cafes, Arts & Craft Vendors, Mall/Concourse Food Vendors, Merchant Vendors, and High Density Vendors at Camp Randall, Langdon Street and the Southeast Campus area. The Street Vending Coordinator coordinates the placement of banners on pedestrian overpasses on Park Street and Campus Drive. As staff to the Vending Oversight Committee, he serves as Executive Secretary, and is also on the Street Use Staff Team that reviews and coordinates special events. The Coordinator also generates text and updates the street vending website.

Office of Real Estate Services and Development

The Office of Real Estate Services and Development:

  • acquires land needed by City agencies for expansion of their programs (ex. street expansion and park land)
  • provides relocation assistance to protect any persons displaced by City acquisitions
  • leases and manages City buildings and land held for future projects to citizens through leases and permits
  • inventories City lands and sells surplus properties in concert with neighborhood sale criteria committees
  • investigates, evaluates and protects the title to City lands through numerous permitting, appraisal and authorization procedures
  • expedites the implementation of redevelopment activities 
  • administers the City's Tax Increment Financing  and analysis
