Transportation

Mission, Goals, and Objectives

The City of Madison Department of Transportation works to develop, operate, and maintain a transportation system that is safe, efficient, equitable, sustainable, and accessible for everyone. Our work supports the City's land use plans, regional transportation goals, and the needs of a growing community.

The Department is responsible for planning, coordinating, operating, and managing Madison's transportation network, including:

  • Transportation planning
  • Metro Transit
  • Parking services
  • Traffic engineering

Whether you're walking, biking, rolling, taking transit, or driving, our goal is to provide a transportation system that helps people travel safely and conveniently throughout Madison.
