Bed and Breakfast
A bed and breakfast (B&B) is a type of temporary lodging. B&Bs must be the personal residence of the operator. Rental properties cannot be used as B&Bs, but they may be rented as a Short Term Rental if the lease allows. All B&Bs are required to pay the room tax, have a health license, and be approved as a conditional use.
Zoning Regulations
- A maximum of 8 rooms can be rented
- The license from Public Health of Madison and Dane County must be current
- Breakfast is the only meal that may be served to registered guests
- The Fire Department must approve all fire protection. Local rules may be more restrictive than State requirements.
- Each registered guest can stay up to 21 days in a row
- A maximum of 20 tourists or transients can rent at one time
- The owner must occupy the residence when rented
Other Regulations
- Obtain a Bed and Breakfast License
- Complete the Transient Room Tax Application
- Get Conditional Use approval
