Streets Division - Far West Operations Building

January 5, 2026 Update

Quarter 1 2026 Update
City staff and the design team continue to make progress on the design.  The Schematic Design phase was completed just before the holidays and is currently being reviewed by staff for comments.  The design team will then review comment and make corrections before moving on into the Design Development phase.

A virtual Public Information Meeting was held on Monday, December 15th.  About 15 residents attended the presentation and asked questions.  The presentation included site plans, floor plans and building elevations to give the neighborhood an idea of what is currently being developed.  A link to the presentation can be found on this project page.

Project Information

Project Overview

Design and construction of a Streets Division Operations facility for the far west side of Madison.  The facility will include a similar program to the existing Streets east operations on Sycamore Ave. and west operations on W. Badger Rd. and will include fleet vehicle parking and maintenance service bays for waste and recycling vehicles, snow removal equipment, forestry vehicles, and other Streets Division related equipment and personnel space.  While primarily a Streets Division facility, the space will also collocate a portion of Parks Division operations and Fleet Division personnel to service the fleet vehicles and equipment.

Quarter 4 2025 Update
The Preliminary Design Phase was completed at the end of September.  During this phase the design team presented several site design options for building orientation, and several floor plan options for operational considerations.  Some preliminary art concepts were also presented for consideration to meet the Percent for Art ordinance.

City staff landed on a single site and floor plan layout for further development during the Schematic Design Phase which started on October 1.  During this phase we will be refining the design and adjusting scope to stay within budget.
