October 5, 2026 Update
As part of this project, the City will be installing new sanitary sewer mains and lateral stubs within the roadways in an effort to eliminate existing backyard sewer mains that are difficult for our maintenance crews to access and adequately clean and have caused sewer backups in the past due to poor condition. A letter was recently sent to select properties currently served by these backyard sanitary sewer mains explaining the City's reimbursement policy for plumbing conversions and lateral relocations to the new City sanitary sewer mains.

The City encourages property owners to contact the project's sewer designer with any questions about the reimbursement policy or any other sewer-related questions.
ADDITIONALLY, the City encourages properties that received this letter to contact the project's sewer designer if there are preferential locations you would like your property's new lateral(s) to be placed. The City will attempt to accommodate property owner preferences for new lateral location(s) on this project to the greatest extent feasible.

Project Information
Project Overview
The City of Madison is planning to reconstruct streets and utilities within the Lake Forest neighborhood over three phases of construction. The first phase is planned to include Dickson Place, Irwin Place, Dodge Street, and portions of Martin Street and Carver Street. The project will include full removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement and gravel base, installation of new sidewalk, bike paths, and replacement of storm sewer, sanitary main, and water main utilities.

September 28, 2026 Update
The design team will present the project to the Transportation Commission on September 30, 2026 for approval.
Members of the public are encouraged to watch, register in support/opposition, speak (3 minutes), and/or submit written comments. You can send an email to TransportationCommission@cityofmadison.com to voice your opinion for the project.

If you register to speak, make sure the name you display in Zoom matches the name you registered under so staff know who to unmute when it's your turn. TC meetings start at 5 p.m. and individual project reviews start based on their placement on the agenda.

April 16, 2026 Update
A right of way exhibit has been uploaded for the streets in the Lake Forest neighborhood. The red linework displayed in the exhibit is the right of way boundary between public and private property. Right of way is dedicated for streets, sidewalk, underground utilities, and other public infrastructure. Please review the exhibit to determine any privately owned items that are within the right of way and likely to be impacted by the planned street construction projects.
