Mission, Goals, and Objectives

To assess all taxable real and personal property in a fair and equitable manner, and to maintain complete and accurate assessment rolls and property information and ownership records.

City Assessor Responsibilities

Establish policies and procedures in accordance with Wis. Statutes Chap. 70 and Madison General Ordinances, Sec. 33.03 and 33.08. The City Assessor has three main duties: to discover, to list, and to value all taxable property within the jurisdiction of the city. To ensure that all property is treated uniformly, the Assessor’s procedures must conform to state statutes, Wisconsin Department of Revenue oversight and guidance, case law, and apply commonly accepted appraisal and accounting practices.
