Prequalification

Contractors must be prequalified by the City of Madison in order to perform work within public spaces. This includes working within the public right of way and working on public works projects and private developer's agreements with the City. This can also include public sidewalk and driveway aprons.

Contractors only performing work on private property for private property owners under a building permit generally do not require a prequalified contractor license. Rather, they should submit a copy of their state contractor's license (from the Department of Professional Services) to the Building Inspection Division.
