Transportation Improvement Program

The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a five-year plan that outlines priority transportation projects in the Greater Madison region. Updated annually by the Greater Madison MPO, the TIP ensures projects align with the region’s long-range transportation goals.

Projects must be included in the TIP to qualify for federal funding. The plan covers a variety of transportation improvements, including: roads and highways, public transit, bike and pedestrian infrastructure, and rideshare and transportation demand management (TDM) projects.

Draft: 2027–2031 TIP

State, county, and local agencies are asked to submit transportation projects for inclusion in the 2027–2031 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) by Monday, June 15, 2026.

Please note that the MPO is transitioning to an eTIP to make project listings and funding information more accessible. As a result, there is a new process for submitting projects.

How to Submit Projects

To submit projects, first request access to the eTIP. For step-by-step instructions, visit the System Access Instructions.

A training session hosted by EcoInteractive, the developer of the eTIP, is also available and recommended for a detailed walkthrough of the project submission process.
