Transportation Improvement Program

The Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a five-year plan that outlines priority transportation projects in the Greater Madison region. Updated annually by the Greater Madison MPO, the TIP ensures projects align with the region’s long-range transportation goals.

Projects must be included in the TIP to qualify for federal funding. The plan covers a variety of transportation improvements, including: roads and highways, public transit, bike and pedestrian infrastructure, and rideshare and transportation demand management (TDM) projects.

Draft: 2027–2031 TIP

The draft 2027–2031 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) will be released on August 19, 2027. Once it's available, you'll be able to review the draft project listings on this page.

TIP Amendments

Proposed Amendment

The Greater Madison MPO Policy Board will consider an amendment to the 2025–2029 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) at its meeting on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.

The proposed amendment would update the funding and construction schedule for the City of Madison's federally funded North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The amendment would adjust local, state, and federal funding for the project and move construction from 2027–2028 to 2028–2031.

Because the funding changes exceed $7 million, the proposal is considered a major amendment to the TIP. Total project costs remain within the funding levels included in the Regional Transportation Plan.
