Hawthorne Court Road Reconstruction

February 27, 2026 Update

R.G. Huston Company, Inc. was awarded the project contract. They are anticipating to mobilize for construction on Hawthorne Ct the week of May 2, 2026, pending weather conditions.  The Contractor will first start by setting up the project traffic control and preparing the site for construction.  Following site preparation, they will begin excavating and installing the new sanitary sewer main and laterals which is anticipated to be completed by the end of March.  Following sanitary sewer work, the contractor will continue underground utility construction of water main and storm sewer installations.  Allowed working hours are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday – Saturday and 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Sundays.

During construction, Hawthorne Ct will be closed to through traffic.  No street parking is allowed on Hawthorne Ct. The Parking Division will supply residents with free parking permits for one month during construction. Requests for permits can be made by calling the Parking Division at 608-266-4761 or emailing monthlyparking@cityofmadison.com.  The Contractor will notify impacted residents prior to their driveway access being closed for an extended period of time (e.g. underground utility work, concrete drive apron curing, etc.)

Project Information

Project Overview

The City plans to reconstruct Hawthorne Court between University Avenue and State Street. The proposed project includes replacement of underground utilities (storm sewer and sanitary sewer) as well as replacement/installation of street infrastructure such as roadway base, concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway aprons, and lighting.

August 25, 2023 Update

The project was presented at the 8/23/2023 Board of Public Works meeting. The Board approved the plans, specifications, and assessments.
