A shout-out to all the officers who recently went the extra mile to ensure that one victim's Christmas was still a happy one despite the crimes commited against him. On Christmas Eve, a citizen in the North District was hospitalized with heart issues. Upon being discharged the next day, he returned home to find that someone had burglarized his residence and stolen several hundred dollars worth of wrapped Christmas gifts that he planned on giving to his grandchildren that day.
Other MPD officers were made aware of this incident and took it upon themselves to collect donations from their own pockets, raising enough money to then go out and purchase a full list of replacement toys for his grandchildren.
A huge thank you to all the officers who donated their own money, shopped for the gifts, and gave them back to the man. This is the perfect example of the professionalism, compassion, and community-oriented policing that MPD strives to display every single day on the job.
