Since the beginning of this week there have been at least 14 theft from auto incidents in West District. Many, if not all of the vehicles were left unlocked. Low-value items were reported taken - sunglasses, spare change, etc. Vehicles were entered during the overnight hours from approximately 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM.
A few reminders to help ensure your Mother's Day weekend isn't ruined by an opportunistic thief:
- Do not leave valuable items in your unattended car - especially do not leave valuables in plain sight.
- Always lock your vehicle - even when it is parked in your driveway.
- Do not leave the vehicle keys in your car.
- If your car isn't parked in your garage, consider not leaving a garage door opener in it (easy access for a burglar).
- Make sure you shut your garage door at night.
- Keep your garage service door shut and locked.
