Tornado Drill

Statewide Safety Drill

The Thursday, April 16, statewide drills have been canceled and postponed to a future date (TBD). More information on that will be sent to our operations team.  

Important Note:
If there is a threat of severe weather in Wisconsin on April 16, the drills will be postponed to Friday, April 17. The drills will proceed in all other conditions (clouds, rain, dark skies, or scattered thunderstorms). If severe weather is expected on Friday as well, the drills will be canceled. Drill status updates will be posted at Ready Wisconsin by 10:00 a.m. on April 16.

Facility Drill Expectations:

1 S. Ingersoll Street

At 1:45 PM and 6:45 PM, the on-duty Maintenance Supervisor will make a PA announcement directing employees to seek shelter in the nearest designated tornado shelter. A second announcement will be made at the conclusion of the drill.  All employees are expected to participate in the drill and seek shelter when the announcement is made.  

3901 Building

At 1:45 PM and 6:45 PM, the on-duty Operations Supervisor will make a PA announcement directing employees to seek shelter in the nearest designated tornado shelter. A second announcement will be made at the conclusion of the drill. All employees are expected to participate in the drill and seek shelter when the announcement is made.  

3829 Building

At 1:45 PM and 6:45 PM, the on-duty Maintenance Supervisor will have to walk the floor, alert employees of the drill and direct employees to seek shelter in the nearest designated tornado shelter. The supervisor will also alert everyone when it is safe to return to work…..after 3 to 5 minutes of sheltering.  All employees are expected to participate in the drill and seek shelter when the announcement is made.  

PA Announcement Script (repeat twice):
“Attention all employees: This is a tornado drill. A tornado warning has been issued for our area. All employees should immediately proceed to your designated shelter locations. This is a drill. I repeat, this is a tornado drill."

After approximately 5 minutes, the following announcement will be made:
“Attention all employees: The tornado drill has concluded. You may return to normal operations at this time. Thank you for your participation."

1245 E. Washington Avenue

A designated person (TBD) will assist with notifying employees to seek shelter and when it is safe to return to work. All employees are expected to participate in the drill and seek shelter when the announcement is made.   

Please post this information in your work areas for employees who may not have regular access to email.
