Regional Transportation Plan Update

We're beginning work on Pathways to 2050, the region's long-range transportation plan that will help guide transportation investments over the next 20–30 years.

As we begin the plan update, we want to hear which transportation priorities and investments matter most to you.

Municipal Guidance for E-Devices

The Greater Madison MPO developed a guidance to help municipalities navigate the rapid rise of e-bikes, e-motos, and other e-micromobility devices. It provides clear definitions and practical recommendations to support safe, consistent, and regionally aligned regulation of these devices.

Note: At its July 1 meeting, the MPO Policy Board is anticipated to consider and adopt updated definitions for "e-moto" and "micromobility device."

The proposed changes would better accommodate devices such as e-unicycles and e-skateboards and remove the 750-watt threshold, which many lower-speed e-micromobility devices exceed. More information is available on the Biking & Walking webpage.

Active Transportation Plan for Dane County

We recently adopted an Active Transportation Plan focused on making it safer and easier for people to walk, bike, and roll—including those using mobility devices—across Dane County. The plan will serve as a resource for planners, local officials, and community leaders working to create safer and more connected sidewalks, paths, and bike networks.

The plan was shaped by extensive public input. In spring and summer 2025, more than 3,000 people shared feedback through a survey and interactive map, helping identify what's working well and where improvements are needed across the region.
