Safe Streets for All Grant Funding
In November 2024, the MPO secured $1 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program through a regional grant application, teaming up with multiple communities and Dane County. The money will go towards plans to make our roads, bike paths, and sidewalks safer for everyone in Dane County.
This funding will help the City of Fitchburg, Village of Shorewood Hills, and Dane County create targeted safety action plans. It will also support the Village of Cottage Grove’s Active Transportation Plan and the City of Verona’s Safe Routes to School Plan, leading to safer and more accessible local travel.
This grant builds on the Greater Madison MPO's Regional Safety Action Plan, which outlines strategies to reach our goal of zero roadway deaths and injuries by 2040. By focusing on areas with different transit needs, this funding is helping us get one step closer to a safer, more connected transportation network for everyone.
