Specialized Transportation

Getting around shouldn’t be a barrier to opportunity. Yet, it's estimated that 30–40% of Dane County residents are non-drivers, including older adults, youth, low-income individuals, students, and people with physical, mental, or developmental disabilities. In addition, more than 13,000 households in the county do not have access to a personal vehicle.

The Greater Madison MPO is committed to ensuring that everyone—regardless of age, background, or income—has access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation options that connect them to the places they need to go.

Coordinated Public Transit – Human Services Transportation Plan

To better serve non-drivers and improve transportation options, the MPO develops the Coordinated Plan every four years. This plan is created through collaboration with community leaders, human services agencies, transportation providers, and the public. Together, we work to identify transportation challenges and develop solutions that make getting around easier for everyone.

Serving as a roadmap for coordinated transportation services across Dane County, the plan focuses on improving access, reducing barriers, and enhancing mobility for those who need it most.
