Safe Streets for All Grant Funding

In November 2024, we secured $1 million federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. This funding will go towards planning efforts to make our roads, bike paths, and sidewalks safer for everyone in Dane County.

We created a regional grant application, teaming up with multiple communities and Dane County to secure the funding. This money will help the City of Fitchburg, the Village of Shorewood Hills, and Dane County create targeted safety action plans. It’ll also support the Village of Cottage Grove’s Active Transportation Plan and the City of Verona’s Safe Routes to School Plan—both of which are big wins for safer and more accessible local travel.

This grant builds on our Regional Safety Action Plan, which outlines strategies to reach our goal of zero roadway deaths and injuries by 2040. By focusing on areas with different transit needs, this funding is helping us get one step closer to a safer, more connected transportation network for everyone.
