Street Design, Policies & Best Practices

Creating safe, accessible streets for people walking, biking, and rolling requires clear guidance and consistent design practices—which is why the Greater Madison MPO developed a report that brings together local policies and national best practices to help communities across Dane County make informed street design decisions.

The Pedestrian & Bicycle Facility Policies and Street Design Standards Report outlines facility requirements adopted by local communities, alongside recommendations from national sources. It’s a resource for planners, engineers, and elected officials, designed to support smarter infrastructure decisions and provide tools to make our streets safer and more inclusive for all users.
