Sidewalk Replacement Program
August 27, 2025 Update
Upcoming Sidewalk Repairs on Capitol Square
September/October 2025
The City of Madison is planning to repair sidewalk along the Capitol Square. These are only minor repairs to cracks, not complete sidewalk replacement. The project is scheduled to begin mid September, 2025. The work will include sawcutting, removal of concrete and pouring & curing of new concrete. It is expected that each area will be started and completed within 1-2 weeks, with the whole square complete in about 1.5 months. No other work is planned at this time. Areas for repair will be marked in white paint in early September, and interested parties can view the extents at that time.
To request accommodations for special needs or disabilities or if you have any other questions regarding this project, please contact the Project Manager, Bill McGlynn.

Project Information
Project Overview
The Annual Sidewalk Replacement Program was created to identify and repair defects (cracks, broken sections, offsets creating trip hazards, ponding/icing issues) throughout the City, rotating through the alder districts on a 10-year cycle.
In 2025, the Sidewalk Replacement Program will be performing work within Aldermanic Districts 10 and 20.
Sidewalk sections marked with white arrows or X’s are designated for replacement. Sidewalk sections with tripping hazards, marked with a pink line across the joint and a white ‘C’, are designated for saw cutting. Separate contracts are bid for the replacement and the saw cutting.
