Intro to South Patrol Lt. Kelly Beckett

January 10, 2019 9:49 AM

I asked each of our new Lieutenants to provide a short summary so you can get to know them.  Lt. Kelly Beckett is our new Patrol Lt.

Kelly joined the Madison Police Department in 2005. She is an Illinois native and has a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture and an M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also completed an M.S. in Educational Psychology at UW-Madison with a focus on how adolescents learn to understand ecological relationships in both urban and natural environments. She enjoys working in the community doing different types of service projects and is proud of her affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Prior to becoming the South District patrol operations lieutenant, she served as a patrol officer in the East and Central districts and was a neighborhood officer in Webb-Darbo on the city's East side before being promoted to Detective. She handled investigations in the South and East districts as well as the Burglary Crime Unit (BCU). Kelly also served as a Detective Sergeant of the BCU before coming to the South District. She is excited to work with officers and with community stakeholders.  Please don't hesitate to contact her with questions!
