City-Wide Notable Calls 03/17/2023 to 03/20/2023

The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 03/17/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 03/20/2023, MPD received  1,166 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (235), East (209), Midtown (185), North (224), South (105), West (148), and Other (54). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.


03/17
EAST: Drug Overdose – 4:35 am.  Officers and MFD paramedics responded to a residence where a subject had overdosed.  The subject was revived with naloxone and transported to the hospital.  No charges were substantiated.

CENTRAL: Traffic Crash – 6:01 am.  Officers responded after a 44-year-old female suspect crashed into a parked car and rolled her vehicle.  A charge of inattentive driving may be forthcoming.

WEST: Threats Complaint – 8:25 am.  Officers contacted a juvenile on a threats complaint. School district notified. Extra, precautionary patrols done.

MIDTOWN: OMVWI – 12:03 pm.  Officers responded to a crash. The 35-year-old male driver was arrested and cited for first-offense OWI.

SOUTH: Stolen Auto – 1:26 pm.  Enterprise Rent-a-Car reported an overdue vehicle stolen.  The vehicle was listed as stolen and an ATL was aired.

NORTH: Theft – 3:37 pm.  Officers responded to an apartment building where the 54-year-old female suspect was seen stealing a package. The suspect was detained during a traffic stop and arrested and charged with theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating while revoked and failure to install IID.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 5:17 pm.  A 55-year-old man hit a dog and threatened a woman during an argument. The suspect was arrested and charged with domestic disorderly conduct.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 6:53 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where the 31-year-old female suspect threw a bottle at the victim, striking her.  The suspect was arrested and charged with domestic substantial battery.

NORTH: Stolen Auto – 8:30 pm.  The victim reported that the 33-year-old male suspect had not returned her vehicle after requesting that he do so for several months.  Officers developed probable cause to charge the suspect with OMVWOC and disorderly conduct.  The vehicle was listed as stolen and an ATL was aired.  Suspect is at large.

WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 8:31 pm. A man spat food at a victim's face during an argument. Probable cause developed to charge the suspect with domestic disorderly conduct.  

WEST: OMVWI – 11:15 pm.  Officers responded after a man crashed into a fence outside of a business. Handgun recovered in the vehicle SThe suspect was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm and first-offense OWI.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 11:28 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where the 60-year-old male suspect refused to leave the victim's home. Suspect damaged property at the home. Suspect arrested and charged with false imprisonment, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

EAST: Traffic Incident – 12:15 am.  An officer observed the suspect vehicle drive through a red light. Driver pulled over nearby and ran from the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Disturbance - 12:46 am. Female suspect found screaming at a bar. Shew as transported to a local hospital. Officers developed probable cause to charge the suspect with battery to law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

EAST: Disturbance – 1:04 am.  Officers responded after a man broke a window to enter a home and attempted to strike the victim before leaving. The suspect was arrested and charged with damage to property, false imprisonment, resisting, and disorderly conduct.

CENTRAL: Suspicious Vehicle – 1:04 am.  Officers observe a gun and drugs in plain view of a parked vehicle. Driver attempted to run away upon returning to the car.  32-year-old man arrested for felon in possession of a firearm, CCW, resisting, and possession with intent THC and cocaine.  A 23-year-old man attempted to interfere with the arrest and was charged with obstructing and possession with intent THC.

EAST: Runaway Juveniles – 1:15 am.  The guardian of two juveniles reported they did not return home from school.  The girls were listed as missing and an ATL was aired.

CENTRAL: Battery – 1:20 am.  Officers responded to a bar where an unidentified suspect punched the victim in the face.  Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Check Property – 1:24 am.  Officers responded after a man said he was robbed at gunpoint outside of a gas station. Officers checked the area but did not locate the victim or any suspects or suspect vehicle.  Officers were unable to contact the victim by phone to obtain further information.

EAST: Weapons Offense Shots Fired – 1:44 am.  Officers responded to a bowling alley where a manager heard what sounded like gunshots. Two fired shell casings were recovered from the parking lot.  Investigation continuing.

EAST: Assist Police – 8:00 am.  Officers assisted another agency with traffic control during a fire investigation.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 11:55 am.  Officers responded to a shelter where a man was bothering other guests. The suspect was arrested and charged with trespassing and resisting.

EAST: Disturbance – 2:31 p.m.  Officers dispatched to a report of a disturbance at an apartment building. Unit found empty. No probable cause developed at this time.

NORTH: Hit and Run – 2:44 p.m.  A man is spotted driving through yards. Officers pull him over and he speeds off in his vehicle, again driving through yards. He eventually exits and runs into a wooded areas. Suspect taken into custody during a burglary investigation the next day.

CENTRAL: Check Property – 3:16 p.m.  Traffic blocked during a demonstration near the Wisconsin State Capitol. Officers worked with another law enforcement agency to coordinate a detour route.

MIDTOWN: Runaway Juvenile – 1:15 p.m.  Juvenile snuck out of the house. No medical or endangerment concerns. Listed as missing.

MIDTOWN: Domestic Disturbance – 7:20 p.m.  Suspect threatened to harm an adult family member. Suspect arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.

WEST: Disturbance – 7:56 p.m.  Officers dispatched to a hotel to remove an intoxicated man who was exposing himself in public areas of the hotel. Investigation ongoing.

CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 8:04 p.m.  Man and woman got into a verbal argument. Woman blocked the doorway so man wouldn't leave the apartment. Woman arrested for domestic false imprisonment.

WEST: Accident Property Damage – 10:12 p.m.  A driver struck two parked vehicles. All three vehicles involved experienced a good amount of damage. Driver arrested for first-offense OWI.

CENTRAL: Weapons Offense – 10:22 p.m.  Officers doing a routine patrol see a handgun inside a vehicle. Occupants of the vehicle located. Driver charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

EAST: Weapons Offense – 11:24 p.m.  Man was punched multiple times outside the restaurant where he works. Hateful comments made by the suspect during the incident. Coworkers come outside to assist and are threatened by the suspect with a knife. Suspect arrested for disorderly conduct while armed and battery with a hate crime enhancer.

Priority calls only from 7:24 p.m. to 8:17 p.m. due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 9:16 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. due to calls for service.

SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 3:09 a.m.  Fight turned physical between a man and woman. Landlord intervenes and is threatened by the man. Man left the area prior to police arrival Investigation ongoing.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 9:40 a.m.  Woman called police to report a man was banging on the door of her house. Man previously battered woman. Man arrested for disorderly conduct and battery from previous incident. Investigation ongoing.

NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 8:21 a.m. Employees arrived find a crowbar stashed in an overhead door. Police entered the building and a man found stuck on an elevated platform. Man arrested for this incident and for a hit and run crash from the previous day.

NORTH: Death Investigation – 1:00 p.m. Officers dispatched to an apartment for an unresponsive man. Signs of drug use located inside the unit. Man pronounced dead at the scene. Investigation ongoing.

CENTRAL: Accident Property Damage – 3:53 p.m. Officers dispatched to a rollover crash. No injuries reported. Traffic was shut down until vehicle was towed. Driver cited for the crash.

NORTH: OWI Arrest – 4:23 p.m. Officers find a driver passed out in a vehicle at an intersection. Driver was arrested for first-offense OWI and possession of cocaine.

CENTRAL: OWI Arrest – 5:36 p.m. Officers dispatched to a crash. Driver arrested for first-offense OWI.

EAST: Death Investigation – 6:53 p.m. Man called police after not hearing from a family member in a while. Officers find the man deceased at his apartment. Nothing suspicious located on scene.

WEST: Disturbance– 7:00 p.m. Man called to report a suspect was using a door to damage his car. Suspect also entered the home and hit the victim. She was arrested for damage to property, disorderly conduct, battery and resisting arrest.

EAST: Disturbance– 8:30 p.m. Shelter staff called to report a disturbance between several residents. 13-year-old taken to the JRC for disorderly conduct.

EAST: Disturbance– 9:15 p.m. Woman called to say she was threatened by a woman driving a vehicle. Woman also reported seeing a weapon in the pocket of a man. Officers dispatched to a parking lot. Begin talking to occupants of vehicle. Crowd formed as officers responded. Two people detained on scene. No weapons located. Investigation ongoing.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance– 11:28 p.m. Woman reported a man was hitting her and threatened her with a gun. Officers arrived to find the man on a balcony. Man said he was armed. Officers made contact with him and safely removed the firearm from his possession. Man was arrested for domestic battery, disorderly conduct, domestic disorderly conduct while armed and going armed while intoxicated.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance– 11:32 p.m. Man and woman got into an argument. Man then damaged woman's home. Man arrested for damage to property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

NORTH: Check Person – 11:35 p.m. First responders awaiting the arrival of the UW Women's championship hockey team were confronted by a man. Man began yelling profanities and threats toward the group. He began to approach the first responders. Man arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, threats to law enforcement officers.
