City-Wide Notable Calls 06/13/2022 to 06/14/2022

The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 06/13/2022 through 6:00 a.m. on 06/14/2022, MPD received 631 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (95), East (135), Midtown (150), North (96), South (31), West (77), and Other (47). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 2:57 p.m. to 4:32 p.m. due to calls for service

 
NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 8:06 a.m.  Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 24-year-old female suspect.  The suspect was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct while armed. 
 
WEST: Disturbance – 12:27 p.m. Officers were dispatched to a physical disturbance at a mall involving a man and woman. Man kept trying to prevent the woman from leaving. Mall security intervened. Man arrested for false imprisonment, felony bail jumping, batter and disorderly conduct.  

EAST: Check Person – 12:36 p.m.  Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject causing a disturbance.  The subject was contacted and conveyed to a local hospital.  Emergency detention being explored.  Probable cause also developed to arrest the subject/suspect.  Final outcome pending. 

SOUTH: Stolen Auto – 1:52 p.m. Officers responded after a car was stolen. Suspects likely smashed out a window to gain entry. 

CITY-WIDE: Storm Damage – 2:57 p.m. Storms caused extensive damage and safety hazards throughout the city. Power outages, downed trees, downed power lines, downed street lights and traffic outages were reported. At one point, there were 200 calls pending. 

NORTH: Storm Damage – 3:02 p.m. Officers assisted with a roof that was blown off a home and landed in the road. No one was injured or hurt. Several residents will be displaced. Madison Fire, Building Inspection, Dane County Emergency Management and other groups assisted with the scene. Command staff and detectives assisted patrol officers at this location.

CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 5:24 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance between a man and woman. Domestic disorderly conduct probable cause exists for 32-year-old man.

WEST: Sexual Assault of a Child – 6:02 p.m. Officers investigated a report of an incident involving the possible sexual assault of a child. Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Neighbor Trouble – 7:23 p.m. Caller reported neighbor stole their cat and was holding it hostage. Investigation is ongoing. 

NORTH: Weapons Offense – 7:23 p.m. A domestic situation that ended in another jurisdiction likely had parts, including a possible shots fired incident, occur in Madison. MPD taking over our portion of the investigation.

NORTH: Assist EMS/Fire – 7:35 p.m. Officers assisted the Madison Fire Department with traffic control for a house and garage fire. No injuries or fatalities reported.

NORTH: Weapons Offense – 7:39 p.m. Several juvenile reported to be involved in a fight. Investigation determined neighbor brandished a firearm in an effort to stop the fight. Investigation is ongoing.

EAST: Weapons Offense – 9:02 p.m. Man armed with a sword arrested after making threats against the victim. The 48-year-old suspect was taken into custody without incident. Suspect arrested for disorderly conduct while armed and misdemeanor bail jumping. Incident report posted.

MIDTOWN: Weapons Offense – 11:06 p.m. Madison officers responded after a man retrieved a large kitchen knife during an argument with someone known to him. 29-year-old suspect arrested and charged with disorderly conduct while armed, felony bail jumping and a probation hold.

EAST: Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 11:16 p.m. Officers located a vehicle reported stolen earlier this month. Officers observed the back window of the vehicle was smashed in. Investigation ongoing.

CENTRAL: Weapons Offense – 12:24 a.m. Caller reported seeing a man holding a gun while crossing the street. Officers responded but did not locate the subject or anyone in the area matching the description provided by the caller.

WEST: Domestic Disturbance – 12:54 a.m. Madison police responded to a domestic disturbance between a man and woman. 20-year-old male suspect arrested for disorderly conduct.

CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 2:07 a.m. Officers dispatched regarding a domestic disturbance between and man and woman that turned physical. 47-year-old female suspect arrested for domestic battery, domestic disorderly conduct and misdemeanor bail jumping.

CENTRAL: Stolen Auto – 2:22 a.m. Victim called police after a 21-year-old man took her vehicle without permission. Shortly after, officers dispatched to another address for a disturbance. When they arrive they find the suspect. Suspect taken to the hospital for an injury. While there, he physically assault a nurse. Suspect arrested for operating a motor vehicle without an owner's consent, battery to a medical worker and felony bail jumping.

MIDTOWN: Check Person – 3:54 Officers checked on the welfare of a man after he made suicidal statements to a dispatcher. Man transported to a local hospital.
