City-Wide Notable Calls 07/06/2022 to 07/07/2022

The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 07/6/2022 through 6:00 a.m. on 07/7/2022, MPD received 461 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (76), East (101), Midtown (73), North (82), South (31), West (57), and Other (41). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 2:26 – 3:35 p.m. due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 6:26 – 8:14 p.m. due to calls for service.

WEST: Check Person – 7:31 a.m. Officers checked on the welfare of a man who was making suicidal statements after leaving a medical facility. Journey Mental Health consulted.

CENTRAL: Stolen Bicycle – 8:14 a.m. Victim contacted police after finding her stolen bike listed on Facebook Marketplace. A meet-up was scheduled and the suspect was arrested for receiving stolen property and a variety of active warrants.

NORTH: Death Investigation – 9:07 a.m. Officers called to home after a woman was found unresponsive. Nothing suspicious observed.

NORTH: Stolen Auto – 3:42 p.m. A rental car was never returned and entered into a database as stolen. Renter also never returned a vehicle to a company out of state. The investigation is ongoing.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 4:09 p.m. Multiple people called to report a man who is armed with a hammer. One caller indicates the man damaged some property.

EAST: Weapons Offense – 6:20 p.m. A Loss Prevention Officer observes what appears to be an armed robbery outside of a store. The suspect vehicle then speeds away toward a local mall. One suspect runs from the car inside the mall. Officers follow him and take him into custody inside the facility. A gun is found on this person. Two other suspects are detained in the car. A handgun was recovered from one of the suspects in the car.

NORTH: Theft – 7:17 p.m. MPD officers notice a man standing next to a moped listed as stolen. Park rangers confirm they saw the man pushing the moped earlier. Man arrested and transported to the Dane County Jail.

WEST: Weapons Offense Person with a Gun – 7:56 p.m. Police are called after a group of men get into a fight. One handgun recovered at the scene. The group leaves the area after finding out police were called. One round discharged from a fleeing vehicle. No injuries or property damage reported. The investigation is ongoing.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 10:28 p.m. A woman was grabbed and pulled to the ground by a man. Another man witnessed the attack and got into a physical altercation with the man. Both men were arrested and taken to the Dane County Jail.

EAST: Drug Incident/Investigation – 1:47 a.m. Officers are checking an area Park and Ride location and notice a man sleeping in his vehicle. Marijuana and mushrooms located inside the vehicle. Man arrested for possession with intent to deliver, possession of hallucinogenic drugs and a probation hold.
