The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 04/01/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 04/02/2020, MPD received 400 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (87), East (71), Midtown (53), North (55), South (51), West (55), and Other (28).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 10:12 am.  During an argument between the victim and suspect (51-year-old male), the suspect punched the victim.  The suspect was arrested and charged with domestic disorderly conduct.

WEST: Theft from Auto – 10:18 am.  A victim reported a firearm was stolen from her vehicle while it was parked at her residence overnight.

EAST: Death Investigation – 11:45 am.  A subject (40-year-old male) was found deceased apparently due to a heroin overdose.  Officers located drug paraphernalia on scene.  Medical examiner responded.

CENTRAL: Check Person – 7:20 pm.  Officers made contact with a subject (44-year-old male) who was intoxicated and making suicidal statements.  The subject was placed into protective custody and taken to a local hospital.

EAST: Civil Dispute – 8:59 pm.  Officers responded to a residence which had generated multiple calls for service this evening regarding a child custody dispute.  Officers mediated between the two parties.

CENTRAL: Noise Complaint – 10:19 pm.  Passersby in the 300 block of E Mifflin St reported a subject (50-year-old male) was yelling at and harassing them.  Officers did not develop probable cause for any charges.

NORTH: Strong Arm Robbery – 12:11 am.  The victim reported that two suspects, one of whom (49-year-old male) is the father of her children, arrived at her residence and grabbed her hair and punched her in the face.  The other suspect was a female who has yet to be positively identified.  The suspects then stole money and a cell phone from the victim, who suffered severe facial injuries which required stitches.  Officers developed probable cause to charge the male suspect with robbery with use of force, substantial battery (domestic related) and violation of a domestic abuse injunction.

SOUTH: Weapons Offense Shots Fired – 2:43 am.  A caller to dispatch reported observing three vehicles congregated in the area of Midland and South Streets, and then hearing one gunshot.  The caller observed the vehicles then flee the area.  Officers located a shell casing at the scene.  There were no reports of injuries or damage to property.

MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 3:37 am.  A security guard observed the suspect (40-year-old male) scraping registration stickers off of cars in a parking lot on Braxton Pl.  When the security guard confronted the suspect, the suspect swung a razor blade at him and fled into a nearby residence.  Officers did not locate the suspect. Probable cause was developed to charge the suspect with disorderly conduct while armed.

EAST: Check Person – 4:02 am.  A subject (27-year-old male) contacted 911 to report he was feeling suicidal.  Officers made contact with the subject and consulted with Journey Mental Health.  The subject was voluntarily conveyed to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
