The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to from Friday morning to Monday morning. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 09/29/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 10/02/2023, MPD received 1,329 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (266), East (268), Midtown (207), North (224), South (156), West (171), and Other (37). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 2:35 p.m. to 4:36 p.m. due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 7:42 p.m. to 8:17 p.m. due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 11:31 p.m. to 5:03 a.m. due to calls for service.

MIDTOWN: Check Person – 7:06 a.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a subject. The subject was being taken to a local hospital by a family member for a mental health crisis when they walked away on foot.  The subject was located and observed with a bottle in their hand. Officers dialogued with the subject and got him to agree to go to the hospital. The subject wanted to walk to the hospital so officers walked with him. Subject voluntarily admitted and officers disengaged.

MIDTOWN: Domestic Disturbance – 8:42 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 19-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and domestic criminal damage to property.

WEST: Battery – 9:03 a.m. Ongoing disturbance involving a 31-year-old male subject that started overnight and continued throughout the morning.  Subject is at-large. Probable cause developed to arrest the subject.

SOUTH: Liquor Law Violation – 2:37 p.m. An officer observed a 63-year-old male subject with a can of beer on a sidewalk. The officer made contact with the subject who became agitated. The subject was issued municipal citations for open intoxicant on public sidewalk and depositing human waste. The subject was conveyed to jail to post on the citations.

SOUTH: Death Investigation – 3:56 p.m. Officers received a request to check on the welfare of a 58-year-old male subject. Entry made to the residence and the subject was located deceased. Medical Examiner's office responded. Nothing suspicious identified at this time. Investigation continuing.

NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 4:09 p.m. A wanted 18-year-old male subject was taken into custody and arrested without incident.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 6:52 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 30-year-old male subject (not on scene when officers arrived). Probable cause developed to arrest the subject.  Subject remains at-large.

MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 10:35 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance. A 44-year-old male subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and resisting.

CENTRAL: Adult Arrested Person – 11:09 p.m. Officers contacted a 24-year-old male subject who was standing next to a vehicle while holding an open can of intoxicants. The subject attempted to throw something in the vehicle when he noticed the officers. The subject became resistive when officers detained/placed the subject into handcuffs. A search of the vehicle yielded drugs and cash. The subject was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver meth, resisting and a probation hold.

MIDTOWN: Crash – 11:11 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a subject struck by a vehicle on the beltline. Fast ID was utilized to ID the pedestrian (58-year-old male), who was deceased. Witnesses reported observing the subject walking on the beltline prior to the crash.

Priority calls only from 7:38 p.m. to 9:13 p.m. due to calls for service.

WEST: Sexual Assault – 1:51 a.m. Officers received a report of a possible sexual assault. Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Check Person – 2:03 a.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a possible suicidal subject. The subject was contacted and placed into protective custody. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Journey Mental Health plugged in. Emergency detention sought. Final outcome/placement pending.

CENTRAL: Domestic Disturbance – 4:31 a.m. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a 22-year-old male subject. The subject resisted officers. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct, resisting and bail jumping.

MIDTOWN: Death Investigation – 6:26 a.m. Officers responded, along with MFD and Middleton paramedics, to a pulseless non-breathing infant. Lifesaving measures attempted but not successful. Initial cause of death appears to be accidental suffocation. Investigation continuing.

WEST: Check Person – 7:00 a.m. Officers received a request to check the welfare of a 43-year-old male subject who was walking outside naked. The subject was contacted and resisted. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting.

MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 12:55 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 50-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for disorderly conduct.

MIDTOWN: Disturbance – 1:02 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 53-year-old female subject. The subject was arrested for possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and misdemeanor bail jumping (2 counts).

WEST: Death Investigation – 3:34 p.m. Officers responded, along with EMS, to a pulseless non-breathing subject (81-year-old male). Lifesaving measures attempted but were not successful. Nothing suspicious identified.

MIDTOWN: Found Property – 4:23 p.m. Officers responded to a residence for a found bullet that was believed to have been caused during a weapons offense call in May. Bullet collected as evidence.

EAST: Drug Incident – 5:50 p.m. Officers responded, along with EMS, to a pulseless non-breathing subject. MPD delivered naloxone to the subject which was effective. The subject was transported to a local hospital. No charges substantiated.

WEST: Death Investigation – 5:57 p.m. Officers responded, along with EMS, to a pulseless non-breathing infant. The infant had been born with health concerns and he was expected to not survive. Lifesaving measures attempted but not successful.  Nothing suspicious.

CITY-WIDE: Assist Other Agency – 6:22 p.m. K9 Officer/K9 responded to assist the Dane County Sheriff's Office with a report of a missing 2-year-old. K9 Officer/K9 were instrumental in getting their UAV team to the correct area to search for the child who was located in a quarry using a thermal UAV.

EAST: Stolen Auto – 6:32 p.m. A City of Madison truck with two mowers were reported as stolen. The truck was located unoccupied. Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Theft – 7:09 p.m. A 55-year-old female subject was arrested for theft, misdemeanor bail jumping and felony bail jumping.

NORTH: Disturbance – 9:19 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 41-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct and a parole violation.

EAST: Check Person – 9:29 p.m. Officers responded to a group home for a report of a subject who cut himself. The subject was transported to a local hospital. Journey Mental Health consulted. The subject was cooperative and voluntary. Officers disengaged.

10/01

Priority calls only from 12:25 a.m. to 12:55 a.m. due to calls for service.

CENTRAL: Battery – 12:11 a.m. Officers responded to a report of an unconscious subject in the roadway after a fight. A 17-year-old male subject was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct. A second male subject remains at-large. The victim was conveyed to a local hospital in stable condition. Investigation continuing.

EAST: Check Area – 2:14 a.m. Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Cottage Grove Rd/Stoughton Rd. Casings located. No reported injuries or property damage reported at this time. Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 2:53 a.m. Officers heard a disturbance in the 500 block of State St. A 28-year-old male subject was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting.

NORTH: Domestic Disturbance – 3:30 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance involving a 37-year-old male subject. The subject was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct (2 counts).

MIDTOWN: Intoxicated Driver – 4:33 a.m. A 36-year-old male driver was found to be impaired. The subject was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (4th offense), failure to install interlocking device, obstructing and a probation/parole hold.

EAST: Sexual Assault – 12:55 p.m. A victim reported being sexually assaulted by a known acquaintance. Probable cause developed to arrest the 28-year-old male subject. Subject remains at-large. *The subject was arrested by McFarland Police Department and transported to jail for 4th degree sexual assault and domestic disorderly conduct.

EAST: Retail Theft – 1:29 p.m. Officers responded to Walmart for a retail theft involving a 61-year-old male subject. The subject was wanted on outstanding probable cause/warrants.  The subject was booked into jail for 4 outstanding warrants, 7 retail thefts, 28 felony bail jumping charges and a probation hold.

NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 2:05 p.m. A traffic stop was conducted. A gun was located in the vehicle. A 35-year-old male subject was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.

NORTH: Trespass – 3:29 p.m. A 44-year-old male subject was arrested for trespassing, resisting and felony bail jumping. The subject was also arrested on an out-of-state warrant.

MIDTOWN: Threats Complaint – 7:34 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a student who made vague threats involving a school. The student and parents were contacted. School personnel plugged in and advised they would handle the situation without further police involvement as the threats were not deemed to be of concern.

MIDTOWN: Threats Complaint – 8:33 p.m. Officers received a report that a student threatened other students with a gun. A consent search was conducted and no weapons were located. School personnel plugged in. Investigation continuing.

WEST: Disturbance – 8:50 p.m. Officers responded to a disturbance. Drug evidence was observed in plain view. A 61-year-old female subject was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting. A 44-year-old male subject was arrested for outstanding failure to appear warrants.

CENTRAL: Aggravated/Substantial Battery – 10:48 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a subject being attacked. The victim was conveyed to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A 41-year-old male subject was arrested for disorderly conduct, substantial battery, bail jumping and an outstanding warrant.

Priority calls for service started at 5:15 a.m. and remain at the time of this writing.

MIDTOWN: Mental Health Conveyance – 3:57 a.m. Officers responded to a local hospital for a subject in need of an emergency detention. The subject was transported to Winnebago.
