The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 03/11/2021 through 6:00 a.m. on 03/12/2021, MPD received 427 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (68), East (99), Midtown (54), North (67), South (54), West (60), and Other (25).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 6:10pm to 8:20pm and from 11:15pm to 11:55pm due to calls for service.

03/11

SOUTH: Sexual Assault of a Child – 2:48 am.  A UW Hospital social worker requested that officers assist with an investigation into possible sexual assault of a child.  Child Protective Services determined safe placement for the child.  Investigation continuing.  (This was a late call that did not make the previous 24-hour cycle.)

NORTH: Death Investigation – 7:05 am.  A family member discovered the subject (97-year-old female) deceased in her residence.  Nothing suspicious on scene.  Medical examiner responded.

SOUTH: Weapons Offense Shots Fired – 8:13 am.  At the Shell gas station at 950 S Park St, the occupant of a stolen vehicle shot at a vehicle that was at the gas pumps.  No one was injured but one of the fired bullets struck a window near the entrance to the gas station.  Both vehicles fled the area shortly after the shooting.  Officers later located the victim vehicle and its occupants who did not sustain any injuries.  Preliminary investigation reveals this appears to be a targeted act of violence where the suspects and victims know each other.  Officers arrested one suspect (20-year-old male) who was charged with first degree recklessly endangering safety.  Incident report completed on MPD website.  Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Information – 6:05 pm.  Dispatch received multiple reports of two subjects carrying long guns and wearing bullet proof vests, walking from James Madison Park towards the square.  Officers monitored the subjects who never engaged in any threatening behavior and eventually left the area.

EAST: Traffic Crash – 6:55 pm.  Officers responded to Stoughton Rd at Buckeye Rd for a hit and run crash involving numerous vehicles.  At a separate location, officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle which caused the crash.  The driver (18-year-old male) reported he was followed while driving on the beltline by another vehicle to the intersection of S Stoughton Rd and Buckeye Rd.  At the intersection, the driver reported observing an occupant from the vehicle behind him exit the vehicle and approach his vehicle in a crouched position.  The driver told officers he feared for his safety and fled the area quickly, striking numerous vehicles as he did so.  Investigation continuing.

WEST: Disturbance – 6:59 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where the suspect (19-year-old female) punched and kicked the victim and pulled the victim's hair.  The suspect was arrested and charged with battery and disorderly conduct.

WEST: Information – 9:51 am.  Officers assisted with an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a child that reportedly occurred in 2019.

EAST: Drug Overdose – 10:17 pm.  Officers responded to a vehicle for an unresponsive subject (31-year-old male) who had overdosed.  The subject was transported to a local hospital where he was reported to be conscious and alert.

EAST: Check Property – 11:09 pm.  Dispatch received a report of the sound of a single shot being fired.  Officers checked the area and did not discover any evidence of shots fired, damage to property or injured persons.
