City-Wide Notable Calls 10/25/2023 to 10/26/2023

The information provided below is about some of the calls officers responded to over the last twenty-four (24) hours. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered from those in the field who were actively working the cases. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as the investigation unfolds.

From 6:00 a.m. on 10/24/2023 through 6:00 a.m. on 10/25/2023, MPD received 427 calls for service. This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (84),East (93), Midtown (60), North (71), South (45), West (60), and Other (14). "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City. This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

Priority calls only from 3:56 p.m. to 5:54 p.m. due to calls for service.

Priority calls only from 9:28 p.m. to 12:04 a.m. due to calls for service.

EAST: Stolen Auto – 7:17 a.m. Man's vehicle has been at a local dealership for months waiting on warranty repairs. The victim began receiving notifications his vehicle was in another county. Dealership employees repot the vehicle's keys were missing. Vehicle located in Rock County and is in the process of being brought back to Madison. Incident remains under investigation. Incident Report completed.

SOUTH: Domestic Disturbance – 11:28 a.m. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance between a couple. Probable cause developed to arrest a 34-year-old male suspect for battery and domestic disorderly conduct.

NORTH: OWI Arrest/Intoxicated Driver – 8:49 a.m. A man hit a vehicle and kept driving. The victim followed the driver and watched him crash into a mailbox, over-correct and drive across the road and crash into a tree. The suspect driver got out of the vehicle and attempted to "hug it out" with the victim. Suspect attempted to walk away from the area but was quickly located by officers. A 22-year-old man was arrested for first-offense OWI. Incident Report completed.

EAST: Death Investigation – 2:24 p.m. Woman found deceased at home. Nothing suspicious located at the scene.  

NORTH: Death Investigation – 2:29 p.m. Coworkers concerned when a man didn't show up to work. Man found deceased. Nothing suspicious at the scene.  

SOUTH: Trespass – 2:57 p.m. Officers called after a man, banned from city parks, was found to be trespassing.

EAST: Stolen Other Vehicle – 4:42 p.m. Motorcycle stolen from parking ramp. Officers reviewing video. No arrests, investigation continues.  

NORTH: Threats Complaint – 4:53 p.m.  Officers called after a student was heard making a threat to school safety. Threat deemed not credible.  

NORTH: Traffic Arrest – 5:04 p.m. Officers notice a driver speeding. During a traffic stop, marijuana and a loaded gun were found inside the vehicle. 22-year-ld suspect arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and given warnings for not having vehicle registration and operating without a license.

NORTH: Check Person – 5:16 p.m. Officers assisted with bringing a person back to their group home. Journey Mental Health consulted.

CITY-WIDE: Check Person – 6:19 p.m. Family called concern after a man said suicidal comments.

WEST: Juvenile Complaint – 7:25 p.m. Officers called for disturbance between youth and adults. No probable cause developed.

SOUTH: Weapons Offense – 9:26 p.m. Man showed up to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. Officers respond to the hospital and location of where the shooting took place. This was a targeted incident. Incident Report completed.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 10:48 p.m. Cyclist became upset with how close a car was following him. Man threw a B-Cycle at the vehicle. Cyclist also threw a speaker at the driver and dented a passerby's vehicle. A 54-year-old man was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

NORTH: Missing Juvenile/Runaway – 11:35 p.m. Police called when teen didn't return home from bike ride. Teen returned home overnight.

SOUTH: Suspicious Vehicle – 1:18 a.m. A man followed another man in his car after the man declined to fight him. The victim drove to the Central District Police Station and the suspect followed. A 29-year-old man was arrested for disorderly conduct.
