National Night Out - Tuesday, August 4 - Come See Us!

July 27, 2015 9:39 AM

This year the Madison Police Department is hosting a National Night Out event at two of our districts.  National Night Out is an annual effort to promote police/community partnerships, improve neighborhood connections and make our community a better place to live.

MPD's West District will host one of the National Night Out events this year on Tuesday, August 4, and the event will be at Elver Park (1250 McKenna Blvd.).

MPD's Mounted Patrol and K9 unit will be present, as well as MPD squad cars and specialized vehicles.  There will also be informational booths (MPD Crime Prevention, Reach a Child, etc.).

The West District's National Night Out event runs from 6pm - 8pm.

The Madison Police Department also invites you to attend the South Madison's 2015 National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, August 4th, at Penn Park.

Police departments nationwide will connect with community partners to celebrate community safety and this year's theme, "Taking Back our Neighborhood." The family-friendly event is free for the community.

The following is the time-line for the evening:

5:30pm:  Unity walk preparation

6:00pm:  A march through the Brams Addition neighborhood to celebrate unity

6:30pm:  Dinner & keynote speakers - there will be a barbecue which is open to the community and food will be served by MPD's South District Community Policing Team.  There will be a local DJ who will provide entertainment throughout the evening.  The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ruben Anthony, President and CEO from Urban league of Greater Madison.  A survivor of domestic violence will be the guest speaker sponsored by Domestic Abuse Intervention Services.

8:00pm:  The evening will close with a candlelight vigil for those impacted by neighborhood violence.

We hope you can attend one or both of our National Night Out events!
