MPD Notable Calls 10/24/2019 to 10/25/2019

The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 10/24/2019 through 6:00 a.m. on 10/25/2019, MPD received 500 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials. 

 

SOUTH: Intoxicated Subject – 11:02 a.m.  Officers responded to the 1800 block of Beld St for a report of an intoxicated subject (66-year-old male). The subject was located, taken into protective custody and conveyed to detox.   

WEST: Adult Arrested Person – 11:44 a.m.  Officers took a wanted suspect (31-year-old male) into custody for an active probation/parole warrant on S. Gammon Rd. 

EAST: Check Person – 12:04 p.m.  Officers responded to a local hospital regarding a suicidal subject (32-year-old male).  Journey Mental Health plugged in.  The subject was taken into protective custody and conveyed to another hospital to be voluntarily admitted.    

NORTH: Disturbance – 12:55 p.m. East High School Resource Officer intervened in several disturbances outside of the school in the area of 4th Street and E. Johnson Street. Feuds involved students, former students and parents. Many were swearing at others. SRO will cite one mother for disorderly conduct.

East: Domestic Disturbance – 1:31 p.m. Drunken man strangled and battered family member. During the violence another family member had a heart attack. Suspect will face multiple tentative domestic charges.

South: Check person – 3:31 p.m. Friend of potentially suicidal person contacted police following concerning social media post. Officers search, but are unable to locate person.

North: Stalking Complaint – 3:35 p.m. Woman tells police a neighbor, who is a man, has exhibited stalking behavior towards her and has made veiled threats. Man is given stalking warning letter and cited for disorderly conduct.

West: Death Investigation – 3:55 p.m. Man who was born in the 1920's was found deceased. No foul play suspected.

West: Check Person – 4:25 p.m. Officers respond to assist a man who was having a mental health crisis.

East: Check Person – 5:28 p.m. Juvenile threatens family member with knives and threatens suicide. Child drops knives when police officers arrive. MPD Mental Health Officer and a mental health professional provide services to child who is taken to a hospital.

Central: Trespass – 9:16 p.m. Woman, who has no permanent address, causes several disturbances at downtown hotel. Staff try to politely to get her to leave. She responds by punching employee several times in the head. Woman arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting, and trespass.

Central: Battery – 9:35 p.m. Coworkers got into an argument with one battering the other. Victim is taken to a hospital with facial injuries. Suspect was not on scene when police arrived, but will face tentative charges to include battery.

North: Drug incident – 10:15 p.m. Man found passed out following heroin usage.

East: Check person – 1:20 a.m. 20-year-old man claimed he was attacked by stranger. He had a couple of superficial wounds. Surveillance video did not his story.  

North: Accident – 2:51 a.m. Officers responded to a car versus pole crash. It knocked out power in immediate area. Madison Gas and Electric crew responded.
