The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 01/02/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 01/03/2020, MPD received 426 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (53), East (86), Midtown (63), North (67), South (47), West (65), and Other (45).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

NORTH: Residential Burglary – 2:35 a.m.  Officers responded to a North district residence for a report of a burglary.  The resident's purse and credit cards were stolen.  Entry was made to the home by the suspect(s) using the garage door opener in an unlocked vehicle that was in the driveway.

NORTH: Stolen Vehicle – 4:32 a.m.  Officers received a report of a stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was observed by an officer and a traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled.  The suspect (juvenile male) was identified but has yet to be contacted.  Probable cause was developed to arrest the suspect once he is located. The suspect was also entered in the appropriate databases as a missing/runaway juvenile.

CENTRAL: Missing/Runaway Juvenile – 10:46 a.m.  Officers received a report of a missing/runaway juvenile (17-year-old female).  No safety concerns identified.  The juvenile was listed as missing/runaway in the appropriate databases.

SOUTH: Check Person – 12:00 noon.  Journey Mental Health and MPD officers made contact with a subject (23-year-old male) with a history of mental health issues who was reportedly researching terrorist-related subject matter online.  The subject was transported to a local hospital but did not cooperate with the evaluation process.  The subject was placed in protective custody and transported to WMHI.

MIDTOWN: Adult Arrested Person – 2:14 pm.  Officers made contact with a suspect wanted for domestic disorderly conduct and bail jumping.  The suspect was taken into custody and conveyed to the jail without incident.

SOUTH: Disorderly Conduct/Weapons Offense – 2:22 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where a suspect (53-year-old male) created a disturbance while armed with a knife.  The suspect fled the residence before officers arrived on scene.  Officers later located the suspect and arrested him for disorderly conduct while armed.

NORTH: Weapons Offense – 11:12 pm.  A verbal argument at a residence between the suspect (40-year-old male) and victim (male) became physical.  The suspect armed himself with a box cutter and swung at the victim, causing a minor cut to the victim's forehead.  Officers arrived on scene and arrested the suspect for recklessly endangering safety.

CENTRAL: OMVWI – 11:25 pm.  Officers observed a vehicle driving against traffic near N Broom St and W Johnson St.  Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and discovered the driver/suspect (40-year-old female) was intoxicated.   The suspect was charged with OWI and taken to jail.  The passenger in the vehicle became disruptive and unruly and was charged with resisting and taken to jail.

CENTRAL: OMVWI – 12:30 am.  The suspect (63-year-old male) crashed his vehicle into another vehicle near Winnebago and S First St and fled the scene.  The victim followed the suspect until police arrived on scene.  Officers arrested the suspect for OWI 1st offense.
