The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 05/21/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 05/22/2020, MPD received 438 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (57), East (76), Midtown (61), North (65), South (49), West (68), and Other (62).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

05/21
NORTH: Intoxicated Driver –  6:21 a.m.  Officers responded to a report of two subjects passed out in a vehicle.  It was reported that the driver/suspect (41-year-old male) woke up and started to drive away, only to pass out again and drive over a median.   The vehicle came to a stop and a female passenger/suspect (31-year-old) stumbled out of the vehicle.  The female took over as the driver and drove away.  The female/vehicle struck several curbs.  Officers arrived and a traffic stop was conducted.  Evidence of heroin use was observed in the vehicle.   Field sobriety tests were administered on both suspects and both failed.  The female suspect was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (1st offense) and a probation violation.  The male suspect was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence (2nd offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

CENTRAL: Drug Incident/Investigation – 7:45 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where neighbors reported hearing a male yelling.  Officers made contact with the suspect (22-year-old male) and discovered a firearm, marijuana and other drugs in plain view in the residence.  The suspect was arrested for possession with intent THC, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

EAST: Disturbance – 11:22 pm.  Officers responded for a report of neighbors fighting.  A victim reported two males approached him while he was in his garage and began punching him.  The victim attempted to defend himself with a hammer.  Officers developed probable cause to charge the suspects, who have not been positively identified, with battery.  Investigation continuing.
