MPD Notable Calls 07/15/2020 to 07/16/2020

July 16, 2020 9:04 AM

The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 07/15/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 07/16/2020, MPD received 397 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (64), East (89), Midtown (59), North (66), South (41), West (55), and Other (23).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

  • Priority calls only from 12:47 p.m. to 3:56 p.m. due to calls for service.

NORTH: Check Area – 10:06 a.m.  An officer observed suspicious activity and went to investigate when two subjects ran from a vehicle/complex.  A witness advised officers that the subjects were vehicle "shopping" in the area.  The two subjects were not located.  The vehicle, whose plates were not registered to it, was towed from the lot.  Investigation continuing.

WEST: Weapons Offense – 12:23 p.m.  Officers responded to Watts Rd/Gammon Rd for multiple reports of shots fired from vehicles.  One involved vehicle was observed by officers and a suspect (21-year-old male) was arrested.  A second shooting incident at Whitney Way/Schroeder Rd was also called in involving the same vehicles.  No reported/known injuries or property damage.  Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Crash with Injuries – 12:31 p.m.  A victim on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle/driver on E. Wilson St.  The driver/suspect (37-year-old female) was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence causing injury (1st offense).  The victim was conveyed to a local hospital for significant injuries.

NORTH: Information/Sexual Assault – 1:34 p.m.  Officers met with two victims who reported being possibly sexually assaulted by two male subjects they were with overnight.  Investigation continuing.

WEST: Armed Robbery – 1:49 p.m.  A suspect (29-year-old male) produced a gun and stole merchandise from Dicks Sporting Goods. The suspect fled in a vehicle.  Wisconsin State Patrol was alerted to this vehicle driving the wrong way on the interstate with a subject pointing a gun out the window.  A pursuit by Wisconsin State Patrol was initiated and the vehicle crashed.  The suspect was arrested (multiple charges being written up).

MIDTOWN: Missing Adult – 5:36 p.m.  Officers received a report of a missing adult (25-year-old female) who was discharged from a local hospital earlier in the day and was supposed to receive additional mental health follow-up at another location but she did not show up.  The subject may be suicidal.  Attempt to locate aired.  Investigation continuing.

MIDTOWN: Check Area – 6:38 p.m.  Officers responded to the area of Kendall Ave/Grand Ave for two subjects walking and one of the subjects carrying a gun.  Contact was made with the subjects and a consent search yielded a handgun.  An uninvolved bystander interjected himself into the investigation.  The original subject/suspect (18-year-old male) with the gun was issued an order-in for carrying a concealed weapon.  The handgun was seized as evidence.

MIDTOWN: Weapons Offense – 6:52 p.m.  Officers met with a victim who located bullet holes in his vehicle.  The victim reported that he had left an appointment and was exiting the Beltline at Whitney Way when he heard loud pops.  The victim also described seeing a vehicle driving fast in the area and going through a red light.  Investigation continuing.
