The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 04/22/2021 through 6:00 a.m. on 04/23/2021, MPD received 383 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (68), East (83), Midtown (60), North (59), South (37), West (63), and Other (13).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

NORTH: Drug Incident/Investigation – 6:47 am.  Officers responded to a residence where they observed abundant drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain view.  The suspect (38-year-old male), a resident at the address, had bail conditions not to possess drugs or paraphernalia.  The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping.

NORTH: Adult Arrested Person – 9:10 am.  Officers received information directing them to the whereabouts of a wanted suspect (29-year-old female).  The suspect was taken into custody and conveyed to jail.

SOUTH: Death Investigation – 11:10 am.  The case worker for a subject (57-year-old male) requested that police check his welfare.  Officers located the subject deceased in his residence.  Nothing suspicious on scene.  Medical examiner responded.

MIDTOWN: Information – 11:42 am.  A semi truck snagged a power line and pulled a pole and wires down in the 2700 block of Chamberlain Ave.  MG&E was notified.

EAST: Theft from Auto – 2:33 pm.  The victim reported someone stole a handgun and ammunition from his vehicle.  There was no suspect information.

WEST: Death Investigation – 2:41 pm.  Officers responded to a residence where a subject (71-year-old female) who had been in poor health passed away in the presence of family members.

EAST: Road Rage – 4:17 pm.  The victim reported that they were traveling on the beltline and attempted to merge into an exit lane for Stoughton Rd.  Another vehicle would not allow the victim vehicle to merge and the victim reported a subject in the other vehicle pointed a gun at them.  Officers were unable to gather enough information to substantiate any charges.

EAST: Mental Health Conveyance – 4:36 pm. An MPD mental health officer made contact with a subject regarding her declining mental health. Officers consulted with family members and support staff and decided to transport the subject to a local hospital for an evaluation.  The subject was placed into protective custody and later transported to an appropriate medical facility.

SOUTH: Drug Overdose – 6:39 pm.  Officers were dispatched to a residence where a subject (39-year-old male) had overdosed on pills.  MFD paramedics transported the subject to the hospital.

NORTH: Assist Police – 8:32 pm.  Cottage Grove PD requested assistance from MPD in locating a suicidal subject.  The subject was located in the city of Madison and no further police action was deemed necessary.

WEST: Runaway Juvenile – 9:25 pm.  During an argument with her mom, a juvenile subject (15-year-old female) ran away.  Officers located the juvenile and reunited her with her mother.

SOUTH: Disturbance – 10:48 pm.  Officers responded to the Baymont Inn and Suites where the suspect (41-year-old male) removed a fire extinguisher from the wall and discharged it in the stairwell, setting off multiple fire alarms.  The suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and intentional false alarm.

NORTH: Battery – 1:26 am.  The victim reported that a known suspect punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground.  The victim was taken to the hospital where it was determined that he had sustained multiple facial fractures.  The suspect has not been positively identified.  Investigation continuing.

CENTRAL: Disturbance – 2:12 am.  Officers were dispatched to the Edgewater Hotel where a suspect (31-year-old female) was refusing to leave after yelling in the hallway and physically resisting security staff.  Officers determined the female suspect was accompanied by a second suspect (34-year-old male) and the two have an extensive history of domestic disturbances.  The female suspect was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.  Officers developed probable cause to arrest the male suspect for bail jumping as he has bail conditions not to be in contact with the female suspect.  The male suspect is at large.

WEST: Weapons Offense Shots Fired – 2:20 am.  Officers responded to Pilgrim Rd at Homestead Rd for reports of shots fired.  Upon checking the area, officers found several fired shell casings.  There were no reports of damaged property or injured persons.  Incident report completed on MPD website.
