The information provided below about some of the calls officers responded to is derived from notes provided by MPD Officers-In-Charge (OIC) at the end of their shifts. Most narratives represent early and preliminary information that was gathered by an OIC from those in the field who were actively working cases. The OIC is sharing what they were being told, in the moment. In many instances, facts and circumstances, even the type of crime listed, can change as officers, detectives and investigators continue their work.

From 6:00 a.m. on 12/10/2020 through 6:00 a.m. on 12/11/2020, MPD received 352 calls for service.  This number does not include parking complaints or 911 misdials.  A breakdown of the calls for service per district is as follows: Central (64), East (69), Midtown (55), North (50), South (40), West (53), and Other (21).  "Other" is used for calls that either do not have a sector or the sector is not in the City.  This would be used in the case of one of our officers assisting another law enforcement agency.

CENTRAL: Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 8:18 am.  A maintenance worker located a stolen moped and notified police.  The moped was returned to its owner.

EAST: Stolen Auto – 8:22 am.  The victim reported she rented a U-Haul truck and loaned it to an acquaintance who did not return it as promised.  The truck was recovered unoccupied.

CENTRAL: Damage to Property – 9:16 am.  The suspect (41-year-old male) removed lights from a railroad crossing guard rail at S Ingersoll and S Wilson.  The suspect was arrested and charged with damage to property and resisting.

SOUTH: Traffic Crash – 1:08 pm.  Officers responded to a report of a rollover crash.  A vehicle turning right from Olin Ave onto S Park St hit a pot hole and the driver (78-year-old male) lost control, hitting a parked car and then flipping his vehicle.  The driver was not seriously injured.

MIDTOWN: Mental Health Conveyance – 1:32 pm.  Journey Mental Health requested that officers assist hospital staff with a patient.  Officers stood by until the patient was transported to Winnebago Mental Health Institute.

SOUTH: Adult Arrested Person – 6:27 pm.  Officers took a wanted suspect (44-year-old male) into custody.

EAST: Weapons Offense – 9:36 pm.  The victim reported an incident in June of 2020 when he was shot in the hand while on the east side of Madison.  Investigation continuing.

SOUTH: Missing Adult – 10:07 pm.  A resident (34-year-old female) of a group home left her residence and did not return when expected.  Staff found the subject still at her destination several hours later and she returned home.

EAST: Domestic Disturbance – 10:29 pm.  The suspect (21-year-old male) and victim were arguing when the suspect threw things at the victim and struck her in the face multiple times.  Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect for domestic battery and disorderly conduct.  The suspect remains at large.
